What does the Ubiquiti Unifi Security Gateway (USG) do for me?

In this video we take a look at what the Unifi Security Gateway is and what it does if you install one with your Unifi setup or your existing or new network. This cost me about $100. I hope this video helps.

Does it help with speeds?

Hey PC Goblin…nice video! I’ve been trying to figure out whether or not I can pull the trigger on this myself! Reason being is…at the moment, I’ve got the cloud key and some access points up and running and love them, but they are all hanging off of a Comcast Business Class modem/router which from what i can see does not have any mode you can set to turn it just into a modem and allow for the USG to act as a router. It’s a head scratcher…but I’d love to use the USG if at all possible. Any thoughts?

I have a new Netgear Wifi router and thought about replacing my old switch (I have the Wifi router plugged into the switch…our ISP in the building just has an ethernet cable coming directly in from the wall….no special ISP hardware here) to a Unifi Security Gateway and just having a cable going out from that into the new Netgear Wifi router. Is it necessary to have some of the other Ubiquiti products if all I want is just a better firewall between the ISP’s connection and the Wifi router? Can I still use the Ubiquiti configuration web UI with just their security gateway? Did you do any other firewall configurations to the Ubiquiti Security Gateway or did you just keep it default?
