Question (I’m totally newbie on this stuffs) : is it ok to install the NVR and the switch vertically on the wall, just like the router? I think that way to save space, kinda slim setup on the wall..

I even got into an argument about patch panels, with someone who also commented on this video as well… That person (who claims to have been a manager/director in this field for decades), along with some others, is arguing that patch panels are just over complications and are the primary failing points in a network. My question is: if that’s the case, why are all serious companies using them? If they wouldn’t be worth it they would not be used, that’s how business works.
Now, for a home network you can say it’s not worth it. It’s gonna be cheaper without it, for sure. 20$ (50$ with a small rack)? It might not be the best analogy, but you can dry your clothes on a piece of wire tied to two trees in front of your house, instead of installing a clothes dryer behind the house. It will save you 50$, but how will it affect the value of your house? It’s not necessary, but recommended. P.S.: leave the wire pairs twisted all the way to the last millimetres when terminating. It might not seem like much, but if the cable is running close to some power cables, or coax and its picking up a lot of noise, then that little crosstalk at the end might be the last drop for the switch to revert back to a lower bandwidth. This is more relevant to Gigabit networks though. And yes, I personally had the pleasure of trying to explain to clients that, although we provide 1Gigabit connection (900Mbit measured average speed), the cabling in the building, done by the builders is not up to the standards and that’s why the multi channel cctv feed from their factory in China, keeps breaking up.

Informative and well done with videos covering all aspects. One thing of note is that it likely would have been simpler to go with a keystone patch panel rather then the old style which is not as often used and is less user friendly.

When punching wires, keep them twisted as far as possible to increase performance. You completely have them straight even though the pairs go together meaning they should’ve been twisted until the point they separate with just enough slack to fit into the punchdown area.

Marking cables is a waste of time.. It’s best to simply run the wires and punch them down, then after it’s hooked up you can use a loopback jack ( easy to make ) and plug it into the wire you want to label, then plug it into the switch and the one which is unmarked, and showing data transfer and receive is the wire associated with that room.
