Hi UNIXPlus. I bought a couple of these Delta Broadcom ET-DT7040 switches your eBay store. Sticker on the unit say they’ve been reset to I guess factory defaults. Can you point me to a quick start guide and manual for the switches? I would very much appreciate it. I’m new to 10G Ethernet and professional switches and not sure where to start getting these up and running. Thanks. -Vince

The broadcom ET-DT7040 is the same in every way as the Dell powerconnect 8024F. I guess they use different software (OS)

legolator says:

That Delta 24p looks really interesting. I’m in the planing stages of upgrading my homerack, couple of G7’s, some switches, a firewall etc. the usual for a linux techie gone into the networking world a few years back. I was considering going with just DAC cables and Intel X520-DA2 cards for everything, but that switch right there is a game changer. Too bad you guys don’t have a office in Europe (Sweden), shipping from the West Coast to me would be murdering the cost calculations.

As for future videos, maybe do some “how to 10gbitify your network on a budget.” or something like that. Cheers!

Can these both do vlan routing? Vlan /L3 interface to work as a core witch?

Eric Witte says:

It’s insane that a technology has existed for 11 years and just now filtering into the home market.

Jesse A says:

Love the videos. How noisy are these for a home lab environment? I’ve just added some x2 10gbe cards to my virtualization setup and loving the speed, keep it up!

Luis Alvarado says:

If you don’t mind me asking a question here — I need to replace a Netgear GS108T.
Looking for something with a bit more power to it as well as the following:
Either SFP+ or 10GBase-T Copper (need to replace two 1G LAG links for a single 10G — Supermicro 5028D-TN4T)
At least 16 ports — at least 2 SFP+ or 10GBase-T — preferably copper.
LAG (LACP) support would be a plus.
Linux OS would be lovely — I can deal with Vyatta as well or anything similar (my gateway is an Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X SFP so I know my way around that).

Any idea if what I’m looking for requires selling my kidneys?

Lothar Scholz says:

If they can scale this down to a 4 or 6 port home computer switch with a $30 per port i think many would start to upgrade. Having diskless workstations and iSCSI is nice and gives some good new features.

Still expensive for me hahaha, I can’t afford it yet and doesn’t even have a PC with 10GbE interface. :3

skaltura says:

the big deal with Force10 was that they did make things different than rest, which gives us ultra deep packet buffers like he S60, or really dense Terabit scale switching on the Z9000

Marek Beňuš says:

Hello, are there any affordable home/soho switches (8-16 port) that do have (at least 4) 10Gb RJ45 connectors as well as PoE? Thinking of going 10Gb in my home network, but I really do not want to go SFP…

Hi, I’ve bought from you a few times for a LAB-Environment for work, I’m now looking for two 10Gbit switches for my house, I live in Sweden so internet connections is pretty cheap, I’m currently running a 2Gbit Fiber connection.

As today I’m running:
Cisco WS-C2960G-8TC-L
Cisco WS-C2960G-24TC-L

What I need is one 8-12port 10Gbit switch, with a SFF-port and a 24+ 10Gbit switch for my rack cabinet. They need to be quite silent though. Anything you’d recommend?
