I want to add I received my Asus router today and have it all hooked up. It’s working great so far. It got here relatively quick from DHL express. The only thing I noticed was the box and instructions came printed in Chinese. Getting into the menu had Chinese language by default, however it was very easy to change to English. This 86U router seems to be noticeably faster than my old Netgear R7000. Link speeds and range is also improved. I will be going through the process to try and upgrade all my wireless devices from 802.11ac Wave 1 SU-MIMO to 802.11ac Wave 2 MU-MIMO so I can take advantage of the MU-MIMO feature that was previously not available on my old Netgear R7000.

Thanks for the video. Just purchased this router myself.

Rolando Barrera says:

Excellent router, highly recommended

Jason M says:

Expired asshat …I’ll hunt you down if you don’t activate that discount code.

mohd izzuddin mohd noor says:

Does it comes with Asus International waranty ?

Anon Adderlan says:

So I went to #GearBest…

• Entering (any) coupon code *increases* the price.
• Calling the support number instantly disconnects.
• Livechat has been in maintenance since 2016-09-21.

…which doesn’t inspire enough trust for me to risk ordering from them just to save $40.

That said, this is easily one of the best routers available, especially if you intend to use a #VPN service on it, as even most newer routers don’t come with as much processing power.

The Paranormal Voice says:

My current speed is 50mbps, will this increase ? If so, by how much?

hashnol ismail says:

adaptive qos not working properly on my unit. not good for limited bandwidth

Sovereign Knight says:

One more thing I discovered is the warranty applies to the place of purchase. So If you buy it from China, it only applies to China. I live in the USA so I don’t think it applies. Here’s to hoping I’ll not have any issues for a long time. Then again, for the discounted price, it’s a gamble.

Edwin Infante Leocadio says:

Because of this video I downloaded the Asus app just to see what’s going on with my router. But when I do a dynastic scan. It tells me that my Modem if Offline not sure how that’s happening cuz am definitely receiving internet signal.

Sovereign Knight says:

One other question, this AI Mesh, does it work on say non branded ASUS routers, such as an old Netgear R7000?

F5bearingguys says:

Get the Merlin opensource firmware, takes this router to the next level

demon6937 says:

Does it have good qos implementation?

Sovereign Knight says:

I’ve had this router for a little while now, and I have slowly started to upgrade my devices to AC MU-MIMO Wave 2 adapters. So far the desktop was upgraded to a Intel 8265 M.2 NGFF card, a Zotac C321 Nano box was modified for dual antennas to use a Intel 8265 M.2 card as well. My LG G5 supports MU-MIMO by default. With all three of these devices, link speeds have become noticeably better with this ASUS 86U router vs the old Netgear R7000. I have re-purposed the R7000 to cater to the rest of the older AC Wave 1 SU-MIMO/ N devices in the home. Doing this keeps the MU-MIMO feature on the Asus 86U operational. If one old AC Wave 1 or N device was connected to the Asus it would remove the benefit of AC Wave 2 MU-MIMO function.

willeymunda says:

is this better than the Linksys WRT32x & WRT3200ACM?

David Ziffer says:

Does the AIMESH stay connected reliably over weeks & months?

Sovereign Knight says:

Thanks for the video. I just used the code and bought one. $159.00 seems like an absolute steal! I’m getting this to replace my old Netgear R7000 router that only supported SU-MIMO.

Kuyi says:

im thinking about getting this. please tell me, is it worth it? how long does it last? any common issues with it?

RayLancer says:

Thanks for the review. I was debating between this and the AC88U/AC3100 model. Ended up going with the AC86U.

nWo Member69 says:

can u use it with 2 xboxs with open nats??
